They always took forever to make and then I never wore them. Here, I adapted the pattern for a higher priced TeePearls line. I have one other “one of a kind” necklace that I’m going to display on Saturday for $35-$45 to see if there’s any interest. I have no idea what will sell at this point, so I’m trying to have 15 of each of my 3 standard designs and then a few prototypes.

temporary redirect

I’m redirecting this blog over to Terned because too many people are getting here when...

“Blue Car” - Jeff Bridges
The brakes are screaming...

“Blue Car” - Jeff Bridges

The brakes are screaming a song called “What’s the use?” is up there with “I was seriously thinking about hiding the receiver when the switch broke ‘cause it’s old” as my favorite lyrics. I guess I love a well used piece of machinery.

This whole album sounds like a happy melancholy if that’s possible. It’s an old man reflecting on his life but still looking to the future.

I’ve been filling my time up with projects that keep me busy to stave off the reflecting part. They also eat up my restlessness that comes from not being able to hammer out any long term plans. All I can do is be patient and make decisions as they come that will hopefully get me where I should be.

I’m figuring out where that is along the way. It’s not a physical place I’m looking for, but that’s often where my mind goes when I’m trying to make a decision. Someone commented recently that I was really into home design and I realized it’s more the idea of being home than anything else. I’m always asking myself will this get me to a point where I’ll have more time to travel and/or find a more permanent place to live?

In the meantime I’m wearing out shoes wandering the city and making my apartment as welcoming a place to hide in as possible. The nice thing is that both have started to feel encouragingly comfortable.

I’ve lapsed into wallowing a lot less often due to flat out not having time, but I’m also exhausted a lot. When I do collapse having something to show for my time usually pulls me out of it. It’s scary how much of the wallowing time I spend staring at stuff I’ve done thinking “how and when did I have the energy and concentration to do that?” That’s sort of where Terned came from. It’s a happy place I have total control over. It’s to remind myself of things I’m proud of. I have a short term memory when it comes to my accomplishments. I’ve realized making progress towards enjoying what I’m doing rather than getting something done has made things more meaningful and reduced the frustration along the way. It’s nice to look back on things and remember more than frustration. That’s something completely new to me. Ever since I was a kid I’ve always designated a point no more than a few years into the future that I morbidly assumed I wouldn’t make it past because I was frustrated by how little control I had. Making it to the eighth grade was a shock as was graduating high school, college and then escaping a job I hated. Now that those structured markers are gone pretty much anything seems possible and I’m a lot happier. I also find myself crying over Lowe’s commercials where inexplicably dancey couples have been dropped into a Michel Gondry music video. I think I’ve reached the 30-45 advertising demographic early, bringing us back around to listening to Jeff Bridges sing songs about being old but starting life all over again.

I’m off to prepare for the corner I painted myself into for tomorrow with an already purchased concert ticket and a rescheduled radio show when I’d rather just sleep through the day and get to the only planned part I’m looking forward to of watching Thursday night’s television programs.

My new site is alive and kicking. I’ll still be updating here with TeePearls progress (slow going at the moment) and other projects I’m working on. I’m trying to keep Well Terned “professional” which just means posting polished work and not posting there when I’m depressed or frustrated. You can continue to enjoy my frustration here and on twitter.

wellterned:

This detail makes me incredibly happy.

I feel like I’ve finally come to a point where I feel comfortable using Illustrator and Photoshop to manipulate my hand drawn sketches into finished products that actually look like what I envisioned in my head from the start. As with many of the things I enjoy, I’m completely self-taught when it comes to digital drawing. I’ve read people criticize illustrations that appear to rely too heavily on the “live trace” function of Illustrator, but I use it to finesse certain pieces of illustrations I’ve drawn by hand and transferred to the computer (usually with my digital camera— I need a scanner). Even then, I go back in and retouch to adjust angles and thickness.

If using live trace this way is wrong, then I don’t want to be right.

Owning a house on some land in the mountains would be swell too —with family and friends nearby. Dan wants a little salt and pepper in his beard. Hillary wants evenings on the porch swing, with giggles and cackles in the air.

I’m resigned to propping a smaller one up on a pedestal or something to give it enough height for the necklaces to hang.

I really like the display I came across on grain. It’s appropriate for the style of the necklaces and looks classy. In my major rebranding effort I’m struggling with creating something that emphasizes the sustainability aspect of what I do without taking itself too seriously. Because of that, I’m rethinking my logo. I want it to be fun and not remind people of a bowl of oatmeal. Putting sunglasses on everything might be the way to tie all my zaniness together. Ariel and Abe have inspired me to add some sunglasses to the Terned bird.

The book is one she wrote in 10 days, an autobiographical work written with the considered rawness for which Emin has now become known. In the early 90s she toured America, giving readings to anyone who came to hear, sitting on her travelling storyteller chair, which was a gift to her from her grandmother (it originally belonged to her great-grandmother), which she patched with the names of the places she visited, like a suitcase. The chair is now an exhibit in its own right (There’s a lot of money in chairs, 1994). It’s a dialogue itself in the form of a chair, one that holds its own narrative shape between Emin and her grandmothers, between past and present histories.
